Amber Townsend: Tutor

Experience

 

I began privately tutoring about a year and a half ago. Until recently, I also worked as a part-time tutor for English and Maths at a local tutoring centre, where I was the specialist tutor for creative writing. For the past year however, I have concentrated simply on the latter, as it provides me with more flexibility and allows me to work consistently with individual students on subjects for which I have a particular passion.

 

At the tutoring centre, I gained experience teaching children the National Curriculum from Reception to KS3. This has given me an understanding of effective teaching methods across a range of ages and abilities. Since working as a private tutor, I have also gained experience tutoring GCSE and A Level students studying for a variety of exam boards.

 

I have worked with children of all abilities: high-achievers and students lacking in confidence, students that struggle to keep up in school and students with learning difficulties such as dyslexia. By keeping an open line of communication with students and their parents,  we can find an approach to teaching that works for each individual student.
